I have an interview, but I have no $money for a suit!
Yay! You have just received a call back from your dream company, and they have invited you to attend an in-person interview...and then you remember.. "I do not have a suit!" After graduating college it is important that you invest in professional attire. Professional attire does not only consist of tailored suits, and button downs. Skirts, blouses and cap sleeve dresses can fit into that category as well.
Suits can be very expensive. Some start at $75, and others range from $150-$300. When I use to work at Banana Republic, a lot of people loved the Tailored Fit suit. The good thing about Banana Republic is that there is always a sale going on. Most of the time its 30-40% percent off, which includes suiting!
Check out their suiting one day and see if it lives up to the hype!
..But please don't get distracted by the labels. You can find a fabulous suit for under $50. Salvation Army and Goodwill are awesome. Everyday they have a color posted and the items with that color will receive 50% off. So, if you are headed to a thrift shop, go in the direction of those colors to save more money. Also, if this is one of your big interviews, try to look for the most "well kept" suits. When I state "well kept" I am referring to the ones that barely look worn, no holes, and no pulls. Your goal is to look well tailored and professional; not run down. It might take a few tries, but keep searching! If even you come across a blazer that fits great, dont pass it up! You can leave it there but when you go pick it up the next day, ITS GONE! Thats a huge tip! When you see something you like, buy it! I saw a meme one day that stated "So what if I can't fit something I thrifted, I'm sure I'll...
- Lose the weight to fit it.
- Grow into it somehow.
- Figure out how to style it.
- Do none of these thing, I just dont want anyone else to have it!
So yes, pick it up and make it work. There are many options in suits, blouses, and dress pants that are located in thrift stores that you can find. It's all about trying it on and patience! Check out this fabulous suit I found for only $25! It fits like a glove! This was my first suit I purchased that fits nicely and it was thrifted! Try to go thrifting this weekend for professional attire!
