$1 Thrifting Sale, say what?

$1 Thrifting Sale, say what?

So, my first $1 Thrifting sale was a FAIL to say the least.

So, you all know I'm an avid thrifter! If you don't and this is your first time reading, Hello! I'm Niqua Jeanette and I am obsessed with thrift shopping! This past weekend I came across one of the biggest sales I have ever encountered. $1 Thrifting! Yes I said it right..$1 Thrifting. When I first moved to Atlanta I went on a thrifting adventure with my girl friend and we came across a place called Rag O RAMA. RAG O RAMA is similar to a store in Florida called Plato's closet where you can buy, sell, and trade your gently worn clothing. Last week when I was cleaning out my closet I noticed a flyer that was in my Rag o Rama bag. The flyer was for a huge sale that takes place twice a year at their locations. The sale took place this past weekend at 11: 00 a.m on both Saturday and Sunday.......So what happened right?

I arrived at 8:30 a.m and the store didn't open until about 11 a.m. I assumed it would be a line, so arriving early was a MUST. I ended up taking 7th place in line! In my head I'm like "okay this whole store is going to be mine, watch out people!" While standing in line I noticed everyone had bags. Fail #1! I didn't have any bags at all. Keep in mind, this was my first time ever doing anything like this and I was by myself. Time got a little closer, I was mingling with a few folks who has experienced this before and taking advice. Exactly ten minutes before the store's opening, the manager walks out and says   "No bags were allowed and you could only purchase what you were able to carry." Win for the people who forgot their bags! So the doors opened and I walk immediately to the blouses. Instead of me just running and grabbing everything and checking later, I was taking my time. #2 FAIL AGAIN!

In these type of situations, YOU DO NOT TAKE YOUR TIME BOO! You pull and run to the next rack! I ended up getting so overwhelmed (#3 FAIL) by the pushing and the people that I only picked up a few items. I was so disappointed in myself!! This store has a lot of cute items that could have been potential gems to others. If I prepared myself for the madness, I could have spent at least $50 with 50 items instead I walked out with 17 items, which was still not bad. In addition to the great items I found, I was able to snatch up a very cute #NastyGal dress for $1 and a super cute summer dress that I can not wait to put on the site.

Here are some tips if you plan to experience a thrifting sale

  1. Be prepared for the madness! Stay calm and expect the pushing and shoving. Everyone is trying to take advantage of the sale.
  2. Arrive early and with the right material. Call ahead to see if you are allowed to bring any bags and ask questions!
  3. GRAB AND RUN! Do not look at any of the items until you are in line and you have everything you want. You will miss out on a lot of gems if you are taking your time to choose the items you like.

Now that I know what to do I can't wait to experience another one! Have you all experienced a thrifting sale? Comment below with your experiences I would love to share your stories via social media!!
