When women support each other, MAGIC happens!
In support of International Women's Day I decided to write a post about why it's important to support other women, especially your friends. Now a days it's hard to have a group of supportive friends who are there for you through the good times and the bad. Most people want to support you when your Instagram is popping, or your tweets are getting noticed, but tend to go missing when you really need them financially, or at events, fundraisers, etc. The crazy thing about it is people are so quick to support celebrities and people who they have never met, but when the person you know personally is asking for help we ignore it. Not trying to bash anyone, we just have to do better. I told myself 2016 was the year I would work on being a more supportive friend. My goal is attend birthdays/events, check in frequently and simply just be an ear to talk to.
Tips for supporting your friends & fellow women
- Try to encourage them in every way possible. Celebrate the highs and the lows, and be a listening ear for one another. Be honest and show them continuous support.
- Check on them weekly! We need that! Text, Face time, pick up the phone! We need to know that other women support us. The little things matter.
- Try to make it to every event, birthday, celebration. I understand people are busy, but making an effort is all that matters. Just having another woman's / friend's presence shows that you made an effort to support them no matter how big or small the event might be.
This past weekend my friend Saphrya had an amazing event called Undisclosed. Just a back ground on our friendship, we met through Instagram in 2014 because I noticed she was putting together a fashion show in Orlando to debut her first fashion line. She went to Parsons which is a fashion school in which fashion designers dream of going to, but can never get in! First let's have a moment for that! Yes Girl!!! Back to how we met.. So I noticed she needed volunteers to help with her fashion show so I messaged her and then it blossomed from there. That event was super dope and the cool thing about it is I ended being her Styling Assistant for her show. I was there to her assistant her in any way; get the models dressed, and make sure she was good. After that I realized this girl had a gift! Fast forward to this past weekend where she debuted her second line of clothing. When I tell you this girl KILLED IT, she really did! It was so amazing to see her blossom into this amazingly talented designer who truly understands the femininity of a woman and the elegance of style.
The reason I wrote about her is because it's crazy when women support each other magic happens. She was expressing to me how she felt so loved because people flew in from New York, Jacksonville, Miami, a lot of different cities just for a one night event. To have that kind of support is PRICELESS. I traveled from Atlanta just to be there because I know she would have did the same for me. I know she inspires me and other women to go after their dreams and to stay focused on your passion. I was and still am so proud of her! What did we wear?
Of course my girls supported me as well by rocking some of my company's (Thrift My Fashion ) new inventory. My sister had on a silk green blouse that I thrifted from Goodwill and my friend Josie had on a floral top that was also thrifted from Goodwill. I wore a fabulous jumpsuit that was only $15, and some hot Mossimo white heels that I found for $5 at Goodwill. See photos below of the outfits and subscribe below for the new inventory that is coming soon!
